#EndBadGovernance: Sovereignty Belongs to the People - Comrade Boluwatife Tells Tinubu |
Olayemi Bolutife Dare (O.B.D) who is the Convener of Congress for National Change (CNC), emphasized during the recent #EndBadGovernance protest in Collaboration with Ogun Take It Back Movement (T.I.B) stated that since time immemorial, Nigerian leaders have acted with impunity, disregarding the will and interests of the people and prioritizing their own selfish agendas over the nation's progress.
Olayemi in a statement to newsmen at Iwe-iroyin Abeokuta at 2pm at the end of the 10th day of Rage Protest, tagged "Carnival of the oppressed" stated that sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria, and young people must take action to reclaim it.
The statement reads, “Sovereignty Belongs to the People of Nigeria.
Section 14(2) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, as amended, hereby declares, accordingly, that (a) sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria, from whom the government, through this constitution, derives all its power and authority. (b) The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purposes of government.
“Nigeria citizens have suffered enough from the hand of a government that lacks empathy."
“For decades, Nigerian citizens have been subjected to a government that is tone-deaf to their struggles, indifferent to their pain, and disconnected from their reality. A government that prioritizes the interests of a privileged few over the well-being of the many.
“We have seen it in the lack of basic amenities like food, electricity, water, and roads. We've felt it in the crippling unemployment, the rising cost of living, and the dwindling opportunities. We have experienced it in the brutality of security forces, the corruption that stifles innovation, and the nepotism that perpetuates inequality.
"Sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria, and it's time we reclaim it! For too long, our leaders have acted like they are the ones in charge, like they are the ones who own this country. But that's not true. Nigeria belongs to us, the people.”
“But I say it this day: enough is enough! It is time for a government that truly cares, truly listens, and truly serves the people to listen to the voice of the suffering Nigerians.
“We need leaders who understand that governance is not just about holding power but about empowering and easing the people's suffering; leaders who recognize that our diversity is our strength and that our collective progress is the true measure of success.
“Let us rise up and demand a better Nigeria, a Nigeria where every citizens must have access to free quality education, healthcare, and job and investment opportunities. A Nigeria where every voice is heard, every life is valued, and every dream is possible."
“When will the poor breathe?”
“A new Nigeria is possible.”
